Data Engineer

Job description

Tiqets is one of the fastest-growing tech startups in the Netherlands, and we’re hiring!

Who are we?

Tiqets revolutionises the way people buy tickets to culture and attractions in cities all over the world. Our technology allows users to easily browse and book tickets to the best attractions in seconds, meaning customers can enter museums, zoos, theme parks and more simply by showing their smartphones.

As a Data Engineer you will be in the Tech team at Tiqets, working closely with data scientists, analysts and other software engineers and other departments like Product and Marketing. You are part of the core backend team, but specialized in data. You will report to the CTO.

You’re a core developer of our data warehouse. You guard the quality of the data, build data pipelines and optimize our infrastructure to have fresh and fast access to business critical data.

Researching or building MVPs is an important part of your role. You try out SaaS services, build new tools and make prototypes. You work on larger projects to improve infrastructure, re-architect data flows, but also on smaller tasks like assisting data analysts and scientists in extracting and verifying data.

Your Tasks

  • Design, build and improve our data and analytics infrastructure;

  • Import and process a wide range of external data into our systems in a scalable way, using in-house tooling you built, AWS services, or other SaaS solutions you integrate;

  • Support our data analysts and data scientists in tools and data to improve their speed and effectiveness. For example to make it easier to access data, or share results;

  • Work on our core backend to improve how we collect, store and process data for further analysis and reporting.

  • Bachelor or Master in Computer Science, or other relevant technical education.

  • 4+ years experience working as a software engineer on data intensive applications

  • Experience with Python and shell scripting

  • Experience with AWS and/or other Cloud services

  • Deep knowledge of SQL and relational databases like PostgreSQL

  • Ability to engineer (large-scale) production systems

  • Experience with event pipelines and real-time data processing

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and attention for detail

  • The capacity to thrive in a startup environment: adapt quickly, take ownership of your work, ability to see beyond the numbers

  • Experience or desire to work in a DevOps way, taking ownership of the full lifecycle of what you build

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Fluent in English

  • Currently living in the Netherlands

Bonus points

  • Worked with AWS data related services like Redshift, Glue, DMS and Kinesis

  • Experience with Data warehouse / Data mart modelling

  • Experience with Looker or other business intelligence tools

  • Experience in the ecommerce domain

Experience with other parts of our Stack:

What we offer

  • Great working conditions and a competitive salary

  • Plenty of responsibility and an opportunity to work and learn from and with the best in the field

  • The chance to make an impact in a fast growing company

  • Pick your own hardware that makes you work most efficiently

  • Fun, sociable events in and out of the office space. We have table football, Friday drinks, show-and-tell sessions with pizza, and lots more!

  • A personal 20% discount code for all the tickets you order with us

  • An amazing, ever changing fresh lunch every day from our own chef!

  • Oh, and of course soda's, fresh fruits, (healthy) snacks and the usual office beverages to keep you caffeinated.
